Bad news, I'm afraid.

I took Bilbo to the vet because of what seemed like a little kitty-cold, but she's actually quite sick. Dehydrated to the point they had trouble drawing blood, very anemic, and a mass in her stomach. They're talking FIP or maybe cancer. I had to check her in to an animal hospital.

I thought I was doing okay until I got home and realized how quiet it is. I'm still proud of myself and hoping for good news, but really, it's ridiculously empty-feeling around here. And that alone is cutting through the shock.

Spare a thought if you can. :-(

I'm sending so many loves to Bilbo and mommy. The one time I had to leave Pippin at an animal hospital (after an attack by another dog resulted in a badly infected bite that nearly killed her) I could barely stand it.

I'm going to go see her this afternoon. Talked to work and they're letting me take flex hours if I need to check on her during the day. She's a bit more energetic this morning, but no news yet on diagnosis or treatment.

Thanks for the well wishes, they really do help. :-) It's hard just now, but I at least know there's lots of people trying to get her well again.

Everything just feels so different. But I'm being gentle to myself and also talked to work and my boss is letting me do what I need to during the day and just call it flex time (I've been working with him for years, he knows I'll get it done). So I do feel better sorted to focus on what matters most.

The hospital says she's more energetic & even fighting them a bit when they touch her too much. She's my sweet girl but she's also a world-class grump so that just seems like her being her real self. We're still waiting on news on a diagnosis, prognosis, all that, so for now it's just one day at a time. It's not okay of course, but within that parameter I really am doing reasonably okay, if that makes sense.

She's got good care. It's serious, but I at least don't have to worry about what-should-we-have-done. (Okay, a little, but not as much as I'd do if I didn't trust other people were taking good care of her.)

I've also got good offline support and an understanding work who basically said "do what you need to, we're calling this flex time and just let us if you need more time to get stuff done." This is hard of course but at least I have the space to focus on it, which helps.

I will. For right now I'm waiting for news and trying to fill the hours with distraction. Thankfully my work's being flexible so I can focus on what I need to without it being such a balancing act. Which helps. If I need anything I really will let you all know.
