1) The Elrond fic~~let~~ is more or polished and in a form I like. It's also 1,400 words and seems to have developed actual themes while I wasn't looking. I'll read it once more and post it tomorrow.

I did forget how heady it feels to actually have written. Quite nice!

How the heck I'm supposed to sleep tonight and work tomorrow is still TBD.

2) Bilbo is adopted and continuing to curl me around her little finger. Pic below the cut.

3) Mr. Trump is set to be sentenced the day before my birthday. It's not that I actually expect him to go to jail and it's not even the worst of what he's done, but just the fact that there are consequences of some type, that he's being forced to live in the same reality as the rest of us feels really good. That more than the hateful policies or comments is what's really been wearing me down, this feeling that reality doesn't apply to him and we're not all playing by the same basic rules where truth matters; for a whole lot of reasons that matters quite a lot to me. So an actual guilty verdict with penalties, whatever they turn out to be, it's like an early birthday present from the universe to me.

Fingers crossed we don't screw this up. I could live with a conservative leader, honestly, but not this sense that if you scream loud enough the facts don't matter.

4) I've been exploring my new town's bus routes. This Saturday I went to a nearby mall in search of shorts. Found some, a little tight for my taste but better than what I had and on a good sale. Then I utterly failed to be able to find the bus stop home again. It was under a parking structure and there are several. I ended up just calling an Uber and discovering how ridiculously close the mall is to my apartment. I could probably have biked it, or even walked it if the weather wasn't so hot. The bit that made me feel good was I could mess it up and still get home okay without the whole world falling apart. It's nice to be able to take a bit of risks.

5) I'm finally getting around to watch Rings of Power. Once I stopped worrying about how well it jives with canon, it's actually ridiculously fun, though still not perfect. But it's still a lot of fun to enjoy something new.

Heee, I know the feeling. What a joy that you're writing. It's been nearly five years since I've written a word of fic, but my hand problems (for which I've now seen five different doctors and received four different diagnoses) may be responding at last to treatment. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed gently. I somehow had missed you had hand problems -- how much harder to be inspired but physically not able to write! I didn't have writer's block per se, more a sense of being too mentally worn out and stressed for creativity to be worth the effort. But it's really nice to know I can still do this.

You definitely have to look at RoP as fun AU fanfiction. I quite enjoyed it and am looking forward to season two.

Yay writing! And sweet kitty pic. I'm on a vacation trip and miss my Pip curling up in bed with me each night.

She really does come in two modes, cuddly and let's be polite and call it curious. Many pens have disappeared, cups knocked off the counter, etc. It's kind of nice to get both experiences.

RoP is, like, really well thought out, exciting and fun AU fanfic! I love good fanfic of course, and if I don't go looking for, like, direct adaptation of specific canon stories, it's a good romp. I can still see the connections, it's not just another sword-and-sorcery romp trying to make money off Tolkien's name, but it's also not an adaptation like Peter Jackson's telling an essentially canon story and making what it thinks are necessary changes to make the screen transition work. The trick is to approach it the right way. (So saith the girl who's a grand two episodes in, nearly two years late...)
