Feb. 22nd, 2025 11:23 pmToday was another Bilbo-centric day.
She's got FIP, if you want to Google it. But the important thing is it's a sort of reactivated/second version of a very common kitty disease, and it leads to anemia and organ failure without treatment, which we're having a hard time getting in due to UPS losing the shipment. Apparently there's a black market version still available from before the FDA approved the treatment, but it felt shady and I chose not to do that. I don't really remember all the details, and I don't want to rehash what did sink in. I think my vet was just trying to give me an option, but the guilt over not being willing to do that was beyond hard.
She had another transfusion today for the anemia. We're actually up to number four, though they do seem to help at least for a few days after each one. And the pharmacy's sending a second shipment which we hope gets here in time. I actually thought when I went in to visit it was to say goodbye, but when I got in the vet seemed more optimistic. No guarantees, but we're not quite to the point of no realistic hope, either. I'm trying to keep my head up.
Mainly I wanted to share one of my favorite-ever Bilbo pictures I took today. If you don't want the medical details or the admittedly heartbreaking escapades of the day (and I don't blame anyone at all for that!), I hope you'll at least enjoy this view of my brave girl.
