The biggest news of the last few weeks is, the Kid's mum had her visa cancelled and they're speeding up plans to go back to Skopje. Her school's working with her so she can do her final exams remotely once she's settled there, so she and her mum can travel together.

Practically speaking, it's not such a huge change, it's just moving now rather than in August. And it's not like she's done with school. But it means she won't get to do the graduation ceremony, she won't have those last weeks with her friend around graduation, she won't have one last summer in her city. And I'm very, very angry. Trying hard not to be because that only hurts me, but with middling success at best.

Other than that, I've been spending more time reading the news than any of us probably should. And I've been reading the Federalist Papers and, of all things, the Harry Potter books. It's nicely nostalgic. That and settling in with Peeta. She's a bit of a meanie-butt and she plays hard enough at night, I'm not getting as much sleep as I'd like. But she's a good girl at heart and gives a good cuddle when I need it most. She's gotten more and more comfortable around me, and the night I learned about the Kid, she actually settled right by my shoulder for the first time.

I'm trying my best to have a life outside all the "interesting times." Sometimes I've even managing it. And if it's only a "sometimes" kind of thing, that still feels like an accomplishment.

They really are! I think I'm doing remarkably well, all things considered. There's just so much to get on with, and "remarkably well" is still limited.

I am glad to have a cat again. I wouldn't be coping nearly so well if I didn't have the balance of caring for her.

Oh, that is *maddening*. It's all I can do not to fly into a rage 24/7, or sit and worry that the Empire might decided Dink isn't a "real" citizen despite all the paperwork being right. And I'm trying not to despise most of my neighbors who voted for this hell we are now enduring. *many hugs* I'm glad that the Kid's mum is able to go with the flow, thought it's rough, missing graduation.

It's so hard, honestly. Even if this won't change that much in practice, it feels like they're both being rushed out of town for no good reason, and that's really hard to bear up under. I'm managing, but I'm also putting a brave face on the situation even to myself.

I could talk all day about this, but I doubt it would help either of us. I'm managing, okay even, but for a certain understanding of "okay." The fact this is the best any of us can manage is just wrong.

Thinking of you too. We all deserve better.

I am sorry. That entirely sucks so much. I am glad the school is working with her.

We all need comfort reading in times like this. And animals to cuddle with.

It really does. I'm managing, "okay" even, but only for what counts as okay these days. But I am carving out little spaces to do normal things I like, and I'm quite proud of that.

It's good to hear from you. So sorry about the visa issue, it'll be a blow to say good-bye earlier than expected. But, they might well be safer there than in the USA right now, and if I were them, I'd be on the first plane back home!

Glad the new cat is settling in with you. It always takes a bit of time for roommates to become adjusted to each other, even if you are human and the other is furry. LOL

Just also just checking in to say I am reading your posts and share your sense of anger and unease in these "interesting times". It's beyond weird and enraging to watch all this from Germany. The Federalist Papers AND Harry Potter. *grins* It makes for good reading! Happy Easter and happy spring!

I'm so sorry that happened to the Kid and her mum.
Even if the Kid was leaving soon anyway and the school is cooperating with her needs, it is such a stupid and hurtful thing to be inflicted on you all (and sadly seems to be one of far too many cases like it).

Also sorry that JKR went and spoiled some of your comfort reading (I saw your comment on Tumblr).

Glad that Peeta is there for you, although I hope you managed to get more sleep.
